My Young Auntie (HK 1981)

Rating: **
Director: Liu Chia Liang (Lau Kar Leung)
Cast: Wei Ying Hung, Liu Chia Liang (Lau Kar Leung), Wang Lung Wei, Yuen Tak

This film fluctuates wildly between incredible martial arts sequences and dreadfully bad comedy. Beautiful and talented Wei Ying Hung stars as "Auntie," a role that won over many of her fans. She's in charge of keeping her husband's will from her nasty brother-in-law, and it eventually leads to a huge fight. The martial arts pieces are beautiful to watch, with Wei Ying Hung's performance graceful and powerful. The other fighters are also very good, but the real money shot is the final showdown between masters Liu Chia Liang and Wang Lung Wei. These guys really know how to fight and the results are fascinating and immensely rewarding. Too bad all of the non-fighting scenes are so awful.
