Queen Boxer (HK 1972)

Rating: **
Alternate Title: The Avenger
Cast: Judy Lee (Chia Ling), Yeung Kwan

A pointless and stupid kung fu revenge flick with the requisite bad English dubbing. A young man goes up against the town's evil gang boss and ends up dead, so his sister (spunky Judy Lee) comes to town to get revenge. She is aided by hot-headed Yeung Kwan who gets axed (literally) about an hour into the film. This really pisses her off and she barges into the bad guy's house and manages to take out several dozen of his men along with the notorious axe gang. She finally kills the villain as she's choking on her own blood, and the last thing we see is her poking his eyes out with her fingers. Judy Lee's first film (I think she was fifteen at the time!), it was shot in eighteen days and as a result it looks shoddy and is poorly edited. And to make things worse, the pan and scan version is terribly assembled and a lot of action is missed in the combat scenes. But where the film really shines is in the "Shaft" derivative credits music and Judy Lee's exhausting and ferocious ten minute fight at the climax of the film. She is simply spectacular as she mercilessly pounds on everyone in her way with a combination of convincing open hand techniques and a variety of weapons.
