Yes, Madam '92: A Serious Shock (HK 1992)

Rating: ***
Alternate Titles: "Death Triangle", "A Serious Shock! Yes, Madam!", "Dragon Force"
Cast: Cynthia Khan, Moon Lee, Yukari Oshima, Lawrence Ng, Waise Lee, Eric Tsang

Best friends Cynthia Khan and Moon Lee are both exceptional police investigators, and are both in love with their unassuming captain. He chooses to marry Cynthia and calls off his affair with Moon, which makes Moon very upset. She desperately tries to break them apart and win him back, but her efforts backfire and she ends up killing the man she loves. She quickly frames Cynthia for the murder and spends the rest of the film ruthlessly hunting her down. While Cynthia is on the run, she hooks up with a street-tough car thief (Yukari Oshima) and the two of them eventually face off against the completely crazed Moon Lee.

This gritty Category III thriller brings together three of the best women in the business, and it's delightful when they all get into it with each other. It's slow in parts, but it allows all of the actresses to do something that they don't often get to do in their other actions films, which is actually act. This is probably Cynthia Khan's finest dramatic performance, and Moon Lee goes all out with her psychotic portrayal of a woman pushed over the edge (and I love those thigh high boots!). Not for everyone, but fans of femme fatale action are sure to be pleased.
