Cannibal Women In The Avocado Jungle Of Death (1988)

Rating: ****
Director: J. D. Athens
Cast: Shannon Tweed, Karen Mistal, Bill Maher, Adrienne Barbeau, Barry Primus

This is an amazingly fun and extremely clever parody of "Apocalypse Now" (or Joseph Conrad's "Heart Of Darkness" if you prefer). Feminist professor Margot Hunt (Shannon Tweed) is sent into the treacherous Avocado Jungle to track down a renegade feminist scholar, Francine Kurtz (Adrienne Barbeau), and her tribe of cannibal women warriors. She is joined by air-headed bimbo, Bunny (adorable Karen Mistal), and loud-mouthed bumbling male chauvinist, Jim (Bill Maher). Together, they face the dangers of the jungle and finally confront Dr. Kurtz. The dialog is hilarious and extremely well written, and all of the performers are spot on. Sure it's low budget, tacky, and silly, but it's also extremely intelligent and entertaining.
