I fell in love with the Millenium Falcon at an early age, and this is a composition
I created by blending a picture of the Falcon with a shot of the Earth. Getting
imagery like this into the computer was a tricky problem back in those days, as flat-bed
scanners were just coming out and still cost about $1200. The solution was to connect
a black and white video camera to the computer and shoot the subject
through red, green, and blue colored filters. Then you'd combine the three layers into
an RGB color composite that you could save to disk and manipulate in a paint program.
