This is a follow up to (or a rip-off of) my earlier
"children were nestled" greeting card (1997). I had
always intended to make a "sugarplums" image (even before the "children
were nestled" card), but I never had the confidence that I could do it right.
This one is my third attempt, and it comes pretty close to what I was trying to
achieve. Unfortunately, by the time I got around to this iteration, I was tired
of drawing fabric folds, so the blanket came out rather poorly. Again, the mouth
was a real trouble spot, and I like it less and less the more I look at it.
Although I think the image conveys the emotion I was looking for, I just don't think
it's attractive. As I was rushed for time, I tried a new coloring technique (or rather
stumbled across a new coloring technique) in an attempt to create more dramatic
lighting and add some depth to the image. Unfortunately, it still looks a bit
rough.
