Christmas 2005
I thought about just using my unused 2004 image,
but then I came up with this one and fell in love with it. The rough and sketchy
look harkens back to my high school work, as does the odd and awkward body
proportions. Where I think the piece succeeds is in its emotional and thematic
impact. The colors are bold and the backlight creates a nice supernatural glow
around her body, as if she's radiating some kind of spiritual energy. Her
posture implies that she's not in control of her body, and that she's given in
to some higher force which is lifting her earthly burden.
