Miscellaneous Observations
US Dreamcast version
- Default intro movie features a swirling shot of Tengu (Hayate's flashback) instead of a
nude Kasumi (or Kasumi Alpha) struggling in a blob of yellow fluid. This segment is
unlockable, however.
Japanese Dreamcast version
- Intro movie suffers from several loading time delays, making it fall several seconds
behind the music.
- Expanded story mode for almost every character.
- Additional tag team moves.
Japanese PlayStation 2 version
- Characters freeze during replays.
- Disruptive character lighting during victory poses.
- Screen goes to light blue before credits play in Lei-Fang's story.
- Costumes are only unlockable in Story Mode.
- Game tells you when a new costume is available (none of the other versions do).
- In Versus Mode, the stage changes with each new match.
- The only version of the game that doesn't feature a bounce guage.
- Generally buggy, and Versus Mode reliably crashes after every 5-10 matches.
US PlayStation 2 version (Hardcore)
- Opening movie uses different cut scenes than DOA2.
- Features an idle mode kata sequence where Lei-Fang, Helena, and Gen-Fu are practicing
in The Koku An.
- Replay feature incorporates the "triple replay" style from the original
"Dead Or Alive".
- Menu music ends and starts from beginning instead of looping.
- Tengu doesn't make flapping sounds when he flies.
Japanese PlayStation 2 version (Hardcore)
- Two opening movies available: The US "Hardcore" version and a brand new one that features
different cut scenes and different music. The alternate intro movie also incorporates the
idle kata sequence from the US version of "Hardcore."
- Replay feature incorporates the "triple replay" style from the original
"Dead Or Alive".
- Menu music ends and starts from beginning instead of looping.
- Features different art gallery artwork, including a cute picture of Kasumi in a
Santa suit.
- Has a special credits movie that plays after completing Story Mode with all characters,
featuring different music, special thanks, additional credits, web site banners, and
a large list of Japanese fans.
(US Hardcore may also have this, but I can't remember - especially as you can only view
it once)
